OSOS by: Arath Herrera – He/Him

I wanted to submit your piece to you, Osos, for it to possibly be picked for either a pin or sticker! The piece is about personal growth, and showing that anyone should be allowed to express their love for themselves and for others. It is meant to represent that there are many different types of people, that all share one common goal of wanting to be loved, and wanting someone to love. It was drawn during a time of my own personal growth when I was finally starting to become comfortable with my own sexuality, and realizing that who I am doesn’t make me any different to anyone else, and that it shouldn’t stop me from expressing who I am as a person, and who I love!

Not sure if I need to explain the inspiration behind the piece for the contest, but just in case:

I chose the character “Dorothy Gale” as my inspiration, who was brought to life by the gay icon Judy Garland. Judy Garland was an advocate for gay rights and had a massive LGBTQ+ following. I found out about the “friend of Dorothy” concept through watching “Rupaul’s Drag Race”. As soon as I saw the Instagram post for this contest, I knew I wanted to pay homage to her and her legacy.

The PDF file labelled “Dorothy_Gale_1” is my official submission for the contest.

The other two were back-ups to be used on the back of a t-shirt or other enamel pins and stickers. ( If I were to be chosen as one of the winners.)

Thank you so much for your consideration.
